Shafi Hoseini was born in Tabriz, capital of Azerbayjan Province in Iran. Following his early education in Tabriz and Tehran, he traveled to the US for further studies, where he developed a fondness for Western classical music. While there, he met and married a Japanese resident Yoshiko Nonomiya, and emigrated to Tokyo with her. Shafi became a classical music critic for an English-language newspaper, the Mainichi Daily News, for over a decade, while he began creating piano compositions and earning acclaim at concerts with pianist Satoko Takimoto. He released his first CD in 2001, and has continued ever since. Collaborating with his long-time friend Army Armstrong, this DVD connects the mood of Shafi's music with the magnificent beauty of the rocky coast of North America resulting in a meditative mix of sound and sight. The footage was shot at Vinalhaven, Penobscot Bay, and Acadia National Park in Maine, and at Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.
